Students who are admitted to the Arlington Reads program are matched one-on-one with a trained volunteer to work on literacy skills. Literacy tutoring is free and confidential.

Arlington Reads Requirements for Students:

• Be an adult (age 18 or older).
• Read below the 8th grade reading level (based on a test administered by Arlington Reads).
• Commit to the program for at least 6 months and be able to meet at least two hours per week.
• Come to tutoring sessions prepared and on time.
• Communicate with their advisor and tutor on a weekly basis.
• Practice outside of tutoring sessions.
• * Obtain an Arlington Public Library System card (highly suggested).

How are Students Admitted?

Potential students should fill out an application. An advisor will call the student to assess the student and discuss the student’s reading goals. Students who do not meet program requirements are referred to other programs.

Arlington Reads Student Applications may be picked up at any Arlington library.
